Creative Arts

Art and Design are an important part of the curriculum and a wide variety of work is undertaken using a range of media. Children's work is entered in local and national competitions but above all, the children are encouraged to enjoy their efforts and achievements.

Drama and Spoken English are strong features with the emphasis being placed on involvement by all children. There are musical and dramatic productions at Christmas and in the Summer Term for both the Lower and Upper School.

Children in Form V and VI are all entered for the English Speaking Board Examination which gives practice of public speaking and performance.

Poetry is taught as part of the English curriculum and private lessons are also available with children being entered for The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Victoria College and British Arts examinations.

Music is also an important part of the curriculum and there are weekly music lessons when the children have the opportunity to learn composition, notation, improvisation and listening techniques. There is a weekly singing lesson for both the Lower and Upper School.

The School Choir performs to a high standard and regularly takes part in local events as well as performing within school.

Individual tuition is available at extra cost for a range of instruments: piano, flute, recorder, violin, saxophone, guitar and voice.

The School Band performs at least twice a year and there is an annual Music Concert for those who learn an instrument in school, along with informal concerts for the pupils at the end of term.

Ballet and Dance

These classes, which prepare pupils for the Royal Academy of Dancing examinations, are also offered as an additional activity.

It is with great sadness that we announce that the decision has been made to close The Grey House School and Nursery in December 2018. We would like to thank everyone who has supported the school over the 69 years it has been in existence, for their support and hope that your  memories are happpy ones.

All past staff, pupils and parents are invited to join us on the afternoon of Friday 14th December here at school. Tea and cakes will be served from 2.30 and the school will remain open in the evening for those unable to get here for the afternoon.

The buildings will all be open for you to wander through for a trip down memory lane; I look forward to seeing you here.
