Poetry Afternoon Upper School
We had such an entertaining time listening to such a wide range of poems spoken so confidently by so many children and it was lovely to welcome back Mrs Bennett as our Guest of Honour. My thanks to Mrs Waite-Roberts for all her hard work in preparing for this event.
Despite a rather damp finish to proceedings, stalls were busy to the very end and it was a very enjoyable afternoon.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped in some form or another but especially to those who set up, cleared away and manned stalls.
Cake boxes – many thanks to everyone who supplied delicious cakes on the day. Empty boxes are in the Upper School Hall for collection.
A lipstick and some money was left on the big lawn and is now in the Office.
We are the hosts for this event, which this year returns to the Cricket Green after many years at other venues.
Parking will be available on the lawn for Grey House parents only and visitors have been directed to public car parks and the Football pitch adjacent to Greenfields.
Many of the Upper School will be running and you should have received a letter from Mr Smith last week inviting your children to take part. Mr Smith will also be much appreciative of volunteer parents whose help contributes to the success of this event.
A reminder that school will finish for everyone at 4 pm to help ease congestion in the afternoon.
English Schools Swimming Championships – Divisional Final. The Spectrum, Guildford. 12th May 2018
Eight Swimmers from our Swimming Club were selected to represent the School and compete in the South East Regional Final on Saturday evening. Following our victory in the Hampshire Championships, we were now up against the whole South East corner of England.
Our medley relay team - Lewis, Emily, Isaac and Alex J were in action first in the heats and despite all of the team swimming to a really high standard, we just missed out in qualifying for the Grand Final on the night.
Our freestyle team - Katherine, Alex H, Alex A and Daniel swam their heat really well and qualified for the Grand Final as the 3rd fastest team.
To secure a place in the National Finals (held in Sheffield next month) the team needed to finish in the top 3 in the Freestyle Grand Final, so the team were in a confident mood going into the final swim. The race set off well with Katherine giving the team an early lead. The final leg was swam by Daniel who was now in joint 3rd/4th place. In an extremely competitive finish, we were nudged into 4th place by the incredibly tight margin of just 1-hundreth of a second.
It couldn’t have been closer!
Well done to all the team, we are proud of the hard work you have all put in.
