Newsletter 22nd January 2018

Dear Parents

This is a rather short Newsletter this time but as the term goes on and gets busier, will get longer I’m sure!

A termly reminder please to you re driving and parking in the school vicinity:

Please ensure anyone involved with the dropping/collecting of children is aware of the various arrangements in place for parking and the free-flow of traffic in the area and note the following:

  • Drop off zone – no parking, just dropping off of Upper School children between the gates between 8.15-9.00 am
  • One way system at “peak” times ie 8.15-9.00 am and 3.15-4.00 pm.  Enter from the Fleet Road and exit through the Cricket Green ‘middle’, non-residential road.
  • Please note the white line outside our ‘second’ gate and that of our next door neighbour at Carbery; this is a No Parking Zone.
  • Do not park in front of people’s driveways or dangerously ie on bends or close to the Fleet Road at the top of Mount Pleasant;  awareness of restrictions:  disabled bays etc
  • Permission is needed to park on grounds; we have child-minders who have this permission at morning drop off and afternoon pick up.
  • If you are kind enough to bring children back from swimming, please do come in to the grounds to drop these children off.
  • Parking is available on school grounds for all evening meetings and after 5.30 pm
  • Please take care and drive at a safe speed as children and adults may be moving around and full vision may be impaired by parked cars.

Big Garden Birdwatch

Some classes will be watching to see what’s in the school garden over the next couple of weeks so do encourage your children to do the same at home.  You may well already have been asked to send in binoculars!

Community Events Network - Spring Clean Litter Pick

You may be interested in the above event taking part in the village taking place in partnership with Hart District Council Ranger Service on Saturday 3rd March, meeting at 10am at Victoria Hall.  The event concludes with free bacon sandwiches and (nonalcoholic!) drinks at the Waggon and Horses at 12 noon.  To register interest, follow the link below:

Announcements

It is with great sadness that we announce that the decision has been made to close The Grey House School and Nursery in December 2018. We would like to thank everyone who has supported the school over the 69 years it has been in existence, for their support and hope that your  memories are happpy ones.

All past staff, pupils and parents are invited to join us on the afternoon of Friday 14th December here at school. Tea and cakes will be served from 2.30 - 5.30.pm and the school will remain open in the evening for those unable to get here earlier, with drinks served from 6.30.pm.

The buildings will all be open for you to wander through for a trip down memory lane and some memorabilia will be available to bid for, with all monies raised going to charity; see the Facebook page for more details.

I look forward to seeing you here.

Chrissie Allen
