A belated (but by no means less intentioned) thank you to everyone involved in the May Fayre.  It was a lovely afternoon (despite the rain at the end) that was filled with lots of fun, a fair few water pistols and rather a lot of cake!

From the marquee going up to the last box being packed away every bit of help is hugely appreciated.  As you know these events couldn’t run without you so thank you to everyone that manned a stall, donated prizes & books, baked cakes, helped with the set up & clear away and generally helped the children have a fantastic day.

This is by no means an exhaustive list and I am certain I will have forgotten someone vital but special thanks must go to:

This May Fayre an extra special mention must be made to two ladies who have given so much of their time to every Christmas Bazaar and May Fayre. They are Mrs Perkins and Mrs Hamm.

Mrs Perkins has sadly wrapped her last raffle prize for the Grey House. For so many years both Tracey and Mrs Pearce-Molland have managed to make all the bits and bobs you all donate into such a beautiful display. Each raffle prize is so carefully put together with such care and attention to detail. Thank you for all the many beautiful packages you have created over the years, you will be greatly missed.

I also wanted to pass a big thank you to Mrs Hamm and her team for setting out and running the beautiful refreshment tables, and of course to the bakers for your wonderful donations.  The selection of cakes was heavenly, many parents bought extras to take home, you really did excel.

I know that she has left the role in the capable hands of Mrs Judge, to carry on the tradition.

To the Wilcock and Berwick families for running the very successful BBQ and Pimms tent, I know the BBQ (as ever) was a success, sadly the weather ruined the Pimms moment for a lot of us. Let’s hope for better weather next year!

Mrs Barraclough and her team of Form VI pupils for running the book stall and for helping plug gaps on many of the other stalls throughout the day.

Mr & Mrs Owen-Thomas and George for very generously bringing Guinness the pony along again this year and for introducing us all to Chief the Shetland Pony too. Both were tremendously popular. The children were absolutely delighted for a chance to take a ride around the track; it really makes the afternoon special.

Mr & Mrs Oldham who every year just simply roll up their sleeves and just get on with it, no matter what the task they are always willing to help wherever needed. Mr Oldham may never ever need to see candy floss again, but sincere thanks for stepping up yet again.

Thank you again to everyone that came to set up and helped clear away at the end of the day, it is by no means the glamorous part of each event but is essential; we would be lost without you.

My final thanks go to the team behind the scenes who do so much; Mrs Steele for taking on the mantle of the rotas from Mrs Judge and introducing us to a new online volunteer booking system – what a transformation! Mrs Pearce-Molland for organising all the sweets & prizes for each stall, to all of the Form Reps for regularly nudging parents and for gathering all their lovely donations, Mr Thompson and his team, and or course Mrs Allen and staff who came to help run the stalls and raffle and for all their endless help and support.

Wow what an amazing turnout for this annual event that returned to The Grey House. Mrs Cheshire and the Friends of the Grey House managed to perform nothing short of a miracle by producing yet another batch of homemade cakes, and refreshments for all the runners and spectators. There was even a BBQ to finish off the event in true Grey House style. Mrs Perkins took charge of the stewards, keeping the children on the right ensuring a safe race was had by all.

Special thanks must be given to the following ladies; Mrs Berwick, Mrs Pearce-Molland, Mrs Orr, and Mrs Hamm.

Plans are underway for this annual event, and we hope to see lots of children and families present at this year’s event. The theme for the festival this year is “Heroes and Heroines”.

You should have received a letter and let us know if your child / children can attend this event – let’s hope this year we can win back the trophy!

SUMMER EVENING - Saturday 30th June

Believe it or not, but the wonderful team of FOGH volunteers are already busy away, planning the food, booking the DJ, and of course keeping everything crossed for perfect weather - for this year’s Royal themed event (in honour of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex), so please take the opportunity to attend in your finest crowns and tiaras!

More information will follow after half term.

Next Friends of the Grey House Meeting – Thursday14th June at 7:30pm

We are always looking for new members to come and join us, and you can sign up to help as little or as much as you would like to.

Thank you for managing (I hope) to read to the end of all this information. I can’t believe how quickly these last few weeks of the term have flown by.

It is with great sadness that we announce that the decision has been made to close The Grey House School and Nursery in December 2018. We would like to thank everyone who has supported the school over the 69 years it has been in existence, for their support and hope that your  memories are happpy ones.

All past staff, pupils and parents are invited to join us on the afternoon of Friday 14th December here at school. Tea and cakes will be served from 2.30 and the school will remain open in the evening for those unable to get here for the afternoon.

The buildings will all be open for you to wander through for a trip down memory lane; I look forward to seeing you here.
