Dear Parents

I’m so sorry for not managing to get this newsletter out to you all any sooner, sparing you the details - life just sometimes gets in the way.

I wanted to say such a HUGE well done to Lisa Berwick for putting together such a wonderful Christmas Bazaar, ably supported by Alex Loten.

We all know it’s the biggest event on the Friends calendar and a vast undertaking that cannot be pulled off without the input, support and teamwork of as many of us as possible.

There are of course so many people to thank individually, but I fear I may forget someone unintentionally of course.

A special mention goes to Jane Berrisford-Smith (and Robert) for all her work on decorating and running Santa’s Grotto, not just for this year, but for all the countless years before too.

Somehow Jane, you manage to transform Mrs Allen’s office into a beautiful and magical place which has proved so popular year after year. Santa himself commented on what a beautiful home he lived in!

The collecting of slips, managing payments and coordinating of rotas is a task in itself before we even get to the big day.

So thank you Jane for all of your Christmas magic over the years from all past and present committees, parents and children.

Another Christmas Bazaar stalwart who has not wrapped her last raffle prize yet … ( I’m thinking May fayre) but has run her last Christmas Raffle is Tracey Perkins.

This year you gave us yet another stunning display of prizes, although a fellow committee member who shall remain nameless did lodge a complaint about your choice of coloured bows this year, and dare I say … hint that they were a bit uncoordinated……. Shocking!!

How you have managed to consistently make some prizes look so amazing will never fail to impress us all. Thank you.

Yet again Cepta Hamm and her team of ladies provided a wonderful display of cakes made and donated by lower school parents and committee members.

Lorna, Emma (Judge) and Chin Lyn were (I think) secretly practising for Bake off 2018 …… or perhaps hoping to replace Pru for the next series……baking all those mince pies from scratch.

Thank you to Lorna (Hillier) who managed to donate three large cakes for us, including a gluten free option, so everyone was catered for.

Sarah Miller worked her magic again on yet another beautiful Christmas cake, for the ‘Guess the Weight’ Competition, which I hope to win one year!!

The wonderful Cheshire family who not only managed to help set up the marquee with Mr Thompson, donate the fuel for the heater to keep us all warm inside, take both their turns at manning a stall – all whist popping backwards and forwards to the village to sell Christmas trees for the Scouts! Talk about ultimate volunteering and dedication. Thank you!

Both Emma & Will Judge kept us all warm merry & bright with mulled wine for the afternoon, as did the Wilcox and Berwick families with excellent hot dogs from the BBQ.

A special thank you to Mrs Barraclough and a team of current and past pupils for running a very popular face paint and tattoo stall. All the children were so helpful throughout the whole day with manning stalls, helping in the grotto, and even clearing up afterwards.

I’m sure Mrs Allen will be adding a few well deserved house points after all your efforts.

Thank you to Mrs Allen for giving her time so generously all day, from helping to set up the bazaar, manning the Champagne stall, and even the dreaded tidying up. It was a long day and your help really was appreciated. Mrs Barraclough, Mrs Pitcher, Ms Hole, Mrs Carter, Mrs Fowles, thank you to you all for also giving up your time at the weekend to help with manning stalls, and with the raffle. I do hope all the classrooms were returned to normal ….. or vaguely how you remember them! Not forgetting Mr Thompson, who without fail helps remind us of the dates to put up and pull down the marquee as well as managing requests for tables, extension leads, and heating!!

My final thanks go to the Bazaar committee: Mrs Berwick, Mrs Loten, Mrs Judge, Mrs Hamm, Mrs Pearce-Molland, Mrs Perkins, Mrs Hillier, Mrs Mason, Mrs Montes, Mrs Mills, Mrs Cheshire, Mrs Galardo, and all the Form reps for their help and support.

CHRISTMAS PARTIES: Thank you to Mrs Orr and the team of elves who transformed the School Hall perfectly and provided the children with a great time with games, great dance moves, snacks & refreshments, and even a visit from Santa for the Lower School I hear. – the children all had a brilliant time! It was the first year we had children join us from the Nursery and a great item was had by all.

FAMILY BINGO NIGHT FRIDAY 2nd February 2018 – “Eyes down and look in”.  It’s that time of the year again, the hall is booked so get the date in your diary for a night of bingo and fish & chips, booking forms will go out at the end of THIS WEEK!! They need to be returned by FRIDAY 26th JANUARY.

Thank you for making it to the end - please let me apologise in advance if I have forgotten to thank you, I promise your efforts have not gone unnoticed even if I haven’t named you.

As always, many thanks for your support with all our events and activities – wishing you all a very Happy New Year.
