Dear Parents

Welcome back and welcome to those of you joining us for the first time.

As we begin the new school year, please do see Form Teachers with any queries or concerns you have; I am sure the Information Mornings will be useful in ironing out any difficulties.  To confirm, the dates for these are: Friday 8th Form I & VI, Monday 11th Form  IV & V, Tuesday 12th Form II & III, all at 9.00 am in the classrooms.  Form Teachers will ensure you receive the necessary information should you be unable to attend for any reason.

This first Newsletter of the new school year contains a lot of important information so I would be grateful if you could please read carefully and make a note of the key dates at the end.

Staff News

We are pleased to welcome Miss Scutt to Form III as a Teaching Assistant in the mornings. Mrs Ley will be teaching Cooking to Form V this term.

At the Nursery we have three new members of Staff joining us: Mrs Chase, Mrs Thurston and Mrs Nicholson.

Congratulations are to be given to Miss Thornett who is now engaged!  We are all very excited for her.

Communication

This first Newsletter has been sent as a hard copy and by email; please let Mrs Gallagher know if you have not received your copy by email and confirm the details we hold for you. A reminder that I will continue to issue a Newsletter fortnightly and you will receive a notification email with an attachment.  It is also available to view on the website.   We are grateful to you if you can refer to your Newsletters before contacting the Office with queries. 

You will also receive weekly an email with ‘The Week Ahead’ information.

Should you wish to see me you may of course ‘pop in’ to see whether I’m free before school or after school although I teach 4-5 pm Monday-Thursdays.  If you need an appointment, please contact Mrs Gallagher in the school Office.

Mrs Gallagher is in the Office Monday to Thursday 8.30 am to 4.30 pm and should be contacted regarding appointments and administration matters on schooloffice@grey-house.co.uk.   Mrs Massey is in the Office Tuesday 8.00 am-4.00 pm, Wednesday 8.00-12.00 and Friday 8.00 am to 4.00 pm.  Please contact her directly regarding Accounts issues on accounts@grey-house.co.uk.

Contact details – please check that we have up to date telephone and mobile numbers so that we can contact you quickly if necessary.  As we now send the majority of our information via email please also keep us informed of any changes, bearing in mind we may send emails out of school hours.  There will be a test text using your first Emergency Contact number sent next week commencing 11th September – please do not reply to this text but let the Office know if you do not receive it.  We will email you once we have sent the test text. 

Prep

Please note that from this term Prep will always be in the Hall on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Mondays, it will usually be in Form V and on Wednesdays in Form III. You are welcome to collect your child at any time to suit you, up until 5 o’ clock.

Absences

Absences for doctors’,  dentists’ and similar appointments may be notified directly to the Form Teacher but allother requests for absence from school must be made in writing and addressed to me (by email is quite acceptable).  I will ensure your child’s Form Teacher is informed.

Other Information

Inhalers/Epipens etc should be handed over to Form Teachers to ensure we have the correct medication in school for your child.  Please ensure they are in their original boxes, clearly labelled and check expiry dates.  Please discuss your child’s needs with their Form Teacher.

Head lice – the start of the school year often sees an unwelcome return of these creatures.  Please check your child’s head regularly and let the school know if you do notice their presence so we can alert others.  Thank you.

Please be aware that it is not necessary to ‘book’ Before /After School Care/Prep; letting us know on the day is fine or even during the day should your circumstances change and you can pick children up at any time during the After School Care period.

Extra-Curricular Activities, including Music

Please note that we facilitate these activities only so any queries should be directed to the member of staff who is taking the activity.  Please see the Office if you require contact details of the individual teachers concerned. Teachers of Private Lessons such as Music and Speech and Drama should inform you of their lesson time by the end of school on Friday for the start of lessons next week.

Flyers/Information

Please note that from time to time we are asked by organisations to send information home via the children or Newsletter.  We do try to choose only information which we consider to be of use/interest to the school community but we as a school are in no way recommending or endorsing any of the material we may send you.

On our Noticeboard outside the Hall are flyers and posters for two upcoming “Time Out for Parents” courses. 

  • The Primary Years – a six session course on Wednesday evenings starting 1st November
  • Handling Anger in the Family – a new four session course on Monday evenings starting 25th September.

Both courses are being held in Hartley Wintney at the St John’s Church Centre.  Bookings for any of these courses are by email, including a contact phone number.

Fire Safety

In the light of the tragedy of the Grenfell fire, I wanted to reassure you that we are fully compliant with all current fire regulations and that we have an annual Fire Risk Assessment carried out by a regulated company.

Climbing Frame/Log Trail

A reminder that this equipment is not suitable for children below school age and no child is allowed on the climbing frame except when supervised by a member of staff in school hours.

Uniform

If you have been in the Upper School before you will have sensed my frustration at the extremely large number of uniform items which remain unnamed and so we will be having a uniform check next Monday.  Please ensure all uniform is clearly named- including socks, duplicates of items and, if you have bought Nearly New items, they are also named with your child’s name.

The shop will be open tomorrow morning.  Should you have any requirements or are unable to attend when it is open, please contact Mrs Mills directly on chinlyn@gmail.com.  Please do not under any circumstances go to the Uniform Shop on your own unless it is open.

Harvest – Friday 7th October at 9.00 am

We are pleased to welcome Ben Chase from St John’s Church to this service and all parents are welcome.  This year we will once again be collecting for those less fortunate than ourselves and will be supporting the Vine Day Centre and would ask you to bring in non-perishable food items such as tinned goods.  We will also be asking the children to bring in a Christmas box for a child and will send details in due course.

Charities and Collections – the collection point for all items is in the Lobby of the Upper School Hall.

We collect plastic milk bottle tops, these can eventually be recycled and a donation made to the Naomi House Hospice.  Please remember these must be cleaned of any foil/paper inside and washed thoroughly.   We will continue to support The Vine Day Centre in Aldershot throughout the year and there is a box for non-perishable foods and other items such as clothing and toiletries.

Friends of the Grey House News

A newsletter will be sent to parents next week with information about forthcoming events and committee vacancies.

We have, over the holiday, slightly revised the plan for the new gazebos and hope that something will be in place soon.

Childminding

A reminder that Lucy Etherington-Smith is available for early drop offs and collection from the Grey House School and also some holiday childcare.  Her number is 07785 978929.

Parking and Driving in Mount Pleasant

Please note we have been informed by South East Water that they are installing a new water main in Reading Road, Hook.  This work commenced 21st August and will take approximately 13 weeks.  There will be a road closure in place along Reading Road between Red Hill and Vicarage Lane, with a diversion route via Griffin Way South – London Road, Bracknell Lane – Reading Road – Odiham Road and Hound Green.

Please ensure anyone involved with the dropping/collecting of children is aware of the various arrangements in place for parking and the free-flow of traffic in the area and note the following:

  • One way system at “peak” times ie 8.15-9.00 am and 3.15-4.00 pm.  Enter from the Fleet Road and exit through the Cricket Green ‘middle’, non-residential road.
  • Please note the white line outside our ‘second’ gate and that of our next door neighbour at Carbery; this is a No Parking Zone.
  • Avoid parking in front of people’s driveways or dangerously ie on bends or close to the Fleet Road at the top of Mount Pleasant
  • Awareness of any parking restrictions
  • Permission is needed to park on grounds; we have child-minders who have this permission at morning drop off and afternoon pick up
  • If you are kind enough to bring children back from swimming, please do come in to the grounds to drop these children off.
  • Parking is available on school grounds for all evening meetings and after 5.30 pm

Your help in maintaining the most positive relationship we can with our neighbours is much appreciated.

You are reminded that if you are giving a lift to children other than your own, to/from school activities, we need a completed Driver’s Declaration Form which is attached with this email.  We would be grateful if you could complete a new copy for the new school year.

Announcements

 We have raised over £1 100 for Children in Need today! Thank you all for your support.

 We will be very pleased to hear from  Early Years practitioners regarding any future vacancies we may have at our Nursery.
